Big the Cat (ビッグ・ザ・キャット Biggu za Kyatto) is a laid-back, calm, and carefree giant cat that likes fishing and Froggy. He made his debut in Sonic Adventure where he had fishing gameplay similar to Sega Bass Fishing.

As his name suggest, he is a big purple cat with long rabbit-like ears. He wears sandals, which is unusual for a character in the Sonic series due to his bare feet being shown. Another unusual feature about him is his eyes are yellow with small black pupils.

He is a calm person, which is rare for a Sonic character seeing many characters are full of bounce.

He enjoys a relaxed life of sleeping, eating, and lure fishing in the great outdoors with his favorite pal, Froggy.

When his friends are in trouble, he will do his best to help them.

He was 18 years old, but his slow behavior and the way he speaks sometimes made Dr. Eggman treat him like a child, as did the 12-year-old Amy, who was leading the group, and the 6-year-old Cream, who was more decent than anyone else.

Despite him being gentle, he is strong enough to lift a car with ease. He also shows unexpected agility when climbing stairs and ladders.

At first, he was thought to be just an ordinary person who likes fishing, but as he appears in more and more game, he becomes more nimble and versatile, attacking with a fishing rod and flying with an umbrella.

People hate the fishing part from Sonic Adventure so much!

The fact that Big's nonchalant character is not popular in the west is also a headwind. This infamous nature of Big made him a sort of a meme among the Sonic community, even showing up for a lot of jokes on the Sonic social media platforms. It seems over the years his reception has grown a lot more positive.

In some games, he often appears everywhere as a hidden character or as a supporting character.

Of the Dreamcast and PC versions of Sonic Adventure 2, he can found hidden away of many of the levels. Rapidly pressing the A or B buttons on the GameCube port will show him in some story sequences.
