Omochao (オモチャオ Omochao) is a Chao like robot that acts as a navigator in his first appearance in Sonic Adventure 2.
In the Chao Garden games in which he appeared, he served as a judge and organizer of Chao Race and Chao Karate. In subsequent games in the series, he has been in charge of system explanations and hosting. His creator and identity are a mystery, and he is said to have a mother, but her identity is unknown.
Omochao's name comes from the Japanese word for toy (玩具 omocha) and Chao. This toy appearance can be shown as stated below.
Omochao is a small blue Neutral Chao like robot with a two-bladed orange propeller on his head that helps him fly. His body and head comprise of a dark blue stripe in the center and light blue stripes on the sides with blots in between all these stripes. He also has yellow hands and feet like a Neutral Chao but with orange soles and gray metal like springs for arms as well as a gray metal wind-up key on his back. His eyes and mouth in the shape of a smile are also yellow and seem to glow when he talks. The yellow smile was white though in Sonic Generations and Team Sonic Racing Overdrive, a promo cartoon for Team Sonic Racing.
There seem to be copies of him in Sonic Adventure and Sonic Adventure 2 without the propeller but a orange wind-up key on the head. His 3D models and sprites of him was shown with a closed mouth till around Sonic Free Riders.
In Shadow the Hedgehog his appearance was made into a gun but with the orange wind-up key on the head from Sonic Adventure. It seems the gun had his now known smile but his model at the time still had a closed mouth.
As a robot assumingly built to help, Omochao gives advice in a friendly manner. This advice comes from his comes from his omniscience. He is overall nice and happy but hates and gets upset when handle roughly and makes remarks about it. In Japanese he tends to add a "chao" at the end of his sentences.
Despite the character made to be as a friendly character to help the player he became annoying and unhelpful by many. The advice he gives comes off as obviously to some or overbearing becoming a hindrance. Because of this there has been many jokes made about this.
