The Korean War, known in South Korea as the 625 War (6·25전쟁) or the 625 Upheaval (6·25 동란) in reference to the beginning of the war was a Cold War proxy conflict fought between the UN forces and North Korean/PRC forces for control of the Korean Peninsula. The Soviet Union also secretly sent pilots into the war to fly for North Korea. In North Korea, its known as the Fatherland Liberation War. Although an Armistice was signed that paused the conflict on 27 July 1953, the war is still officially ongoing.
