Overview編集

Marina Ida, known as Iida Marine (イイダ=マリネ, Īda Marine) in Japanese, is of the two artists of Off the Hook and the first idol to be shown in the Splatoon series to be a Octoling. She is the DJ of the group playing with Pearl, a crazy tongue-tied rapper. She is bilingual and has taught herself to speak squid.

She does not hide the fact that she is an Octoling at all, and the squids seem to think of her only as "a new-looking girl" and are unaware that she is an Octoling. It is an official setting that the existence of Octoling is forgotten by the general squid population, but even so, they may not be overly concerned about it.

Etymology編集

Marina bustテンタクルズ

Marina is a feminine form of Marinus, Latin for of the sea, and is also derived from the name of a dock for boats.

In Japan her name is Marine (マリネ, Marine) with the word itself being short for marination.

Ida (イイダ, Īda) is in both her English and Japanese name, the word itself is a Japanese surname and is close to webfoot octopus (イイダコ, īdako) in Japanese.

Ida in both versions are her family name (last name) but in Japanese her family name is placed first as Ida = Marine (イイダ=マリネ, Īda Marine) despite it being written in katakana (one of the Japanese's alphabets where names are usually listed as this: given name, family name).

But the double hyphen ("=") implies that Ida is her family name (last name). She gets refer as Ida in the Japanese version.
