Overview編集

Mewtwo (ミュウツー, Myūtsū) is a bipedal, humanoid creature with some feline features. It is primarily gray with a long, purple tail. The three digits on each hand and foot have spherical tips. A tube extends from the back of its skull to the top of its spine, bypassing its neck. Its tail is thick at the base, but thins before ending in a small bulb.

Unlike the rest of the legendaries, Mewtwo was created by human after years of gene splicing and DNA engineering experiments based on Mew.

Mewtwo is said to have the most savage heart among all Pokémon, lack compassion, and strike fear into its enemy with cold, glowing eyes. Because it was engineered to be the ultimate in battle, it can only think of defeating its foes. (However this is not in the cases of its anime and manga counterparts)

Background編集

During gameplay in Pokémon Red and Blue, a journal can be found inside the Pokémon Mansion, located in Cinnabar Island.

The contents are as shows below:

Diary: July 5

Guyana, South America

A new Pokémon was discovered deep

in the jungle.

Diary: July 10

We christened the newly discovered

Pokémon, Mew.

Diary: Feb. 6

Mew gave birth.

We named the newborn Mewtwo.

Diary: Sept. 1

Mewtwo is far too powerful.

We have failed to curb its vicious

tendencies…

In Japanese version of the game, the September 1 entry reveals the author to be somewhat more emotional, as shown below:

Diary: September 1

The Pokémon Mewtwo is far too powerful.

It's no use...

I cannot control it!

According to the scientific logs, Mewtwo was born of a pregnant Mew, found deep in the jungles of Guyana, whose embryo had been tampered with to alter its DNA.

It was held and studied in the mansion where a scientist performed horrific gene-splicing experiments that made it vicious and extremely powerful.

It eventually broke free of the Mansion, destroying it in the process, and fled.

Games編集

Main Series編集

Mewtwo first appear in Pokémon Red and Blue, and is the 150th and the last obtainable Pokémon in normal gameplay.

It can be encountered in Cerulean Cave, accessible only to the player in the post-game.

In Generation VI Pokémon games (Pokémon X and Y), Mewtwo can be encountered in Unknown Dungeon and can be obtainable in post-game. After successfully captured it, the player is given one of the Mewtwonites. (depends on the version).

Its signature move is Psystrike, introduced since Generation V Pokémon games.

In Super Smash Bros.

Mewtwo appear in Super Smash Bros. Melee as a playable character. This version of Mewtwo is based on the one from the original series. (See the 'In Anime' section below)

It was since never appears in the following installments until Super Smash Bros. For Wii U and 3DS, where Mewtwo was a planned DLC character that will be release in Spring 2015. It will be available as free DLC for those who purchase both versions of the game.

Anime編集

In the main anime's Original series

Mewtwo make a debut in the very first Pokémon anime movie, Mewtwo Strikes Back.

Its backstory is somewhat different than in the game series; Mewtwo is created by scientists of Team Rocket, but with the DNA extracted from what believe to be the fosilised spine of Mew.

Mewtwo's portrayal in this movie is different between Japanese and US version:

  • In the Japanese version, Mewtwo is less evil and is confused and lost.
  • In the US version, Mewtwo is portrayed as a straight up villians instead.

Mewtwo later appears in episode 63 of the original anime TV series (take placed during the beginning part of the movie), where it serves the Team Rocket (while wearing the robotic suit) and beats Gary's Pokémon. In episode 65, Mewtwo leaves Team Rocket and destroyed their headquarter, as also shown in the first movie.

It later appears in the TV movie sequel, Mewtwo Returns.

In the Best Wishes series

Another Mewtwo appeared in the TV special Mewtwo - Prologue to Awakening and the 16th Pokémon movie, Genesect and the Legend Awakened.

This Mewtwo, while has the similar background and some personality aspect of that of Mewtwo in the original series, is more femnine. It is far less harsh in its hatred of humans, instead merely distrusting them and wishing to be left alone by them.

It is also capable of Mega Evolve into Mega Mewtwo Y (known as 'Awakened Mewtwo' in the special and the movie) on its own, without a Mega Stone. This is the first time a Mega Evolve Pokémon make a debut. (however, the proper Mega Evolution, does not, as it was later first appears in Pokémon Origins)

This Mewtwo is not as famous as the original series' Mewtwo was, due to being a replacement of the Mewtwo from the orignal series.

In Pokémon Origins

Much like in the first games, Mewtwo appears in the Cerulean Cave, and have fights against Red's Pokémon, and all but Charizard were easily defeated.

This Mewtwo has the same background and personality as it was in the video game series.
