Overview編集

Mew (ミュウ, Myuu) is a pink, bipedal Pokémon with mammalian features. Its snout is short and wide and it has triangular ears and large, blue eyes. It has three-fingered paws, large feet with oval markings on the soles, and a long, thin tail ending in an ovoid tip. Its hair is so fine and thin. Mew has big hind legs and short arms with three-fingered paws.

It is said that Mew has the DNA of every single Pokémon contained within its body.

Since Mew can itself invisible at will, only few people have seen it. Mew will only reveal itself to a person with pure heart.

The reports found in Cinnabar Island's Pokémon Mansion shows that the scientists have the first sight of Mew in Guyana, South America.

Also, the Pokémon Mewtwo is related to Mew (Although how it related is different in every Pokémon media).

In Games編集

Originally, at the time Pokémon Red and Blue was released, Nintendo only advertises to people that the games has only 150 Pokémon.

Unbeknownst to them, game designer and programmer at Game Freak, Shigeki Morimoto, had secretly programmed Mew into the games; Mew was created by Morimoto two weeks before game development was finished.

In 1996, Mew was unveiled, when Game Freak president Satoshi Tajiri used CoroCoro Comic magazine as an experimental exhibition of Mew and distributed the first cards of it for the card game as free giveaways. This surprised many employees at Game Freak, including Morimoto himself.

The experiment was a success and Game Freak publicly release Mew to 151 winners. This helps increasing the game's sale as a result.

It can learns every TM/HM moves (except the moves that are exclusive to certain Pokémon).

As of now, it is impossible to get Mew under normal gameplay as Mew is a event-exclusive Pokémon, and its base stat are all 100, which is a rarity for a Pokémon. This is why Mew is called The Phantom Pokémon.

Those traits, as well as the status as Phantom Pokémon, were inherits by Celebi, Jirachi, Manaphy, Shaymin (Land Forme only) and Victini.

In Anime編集

Mew makes its anime debut in the very first Pokémon movie, Mewtwo Strikes Back, where it has a conflict with Mewtwo and the cloneed Pokémon.

Mew appears again in the 8th Pokémon movie, Lucario and the Mystery of Mew. In this movie, Mew is able to transforms into other Pokémon. This Mew is a different one than the one from the first movie.

Note: The following contains spoiler for Pokémon Origins!

A Mew appear in the end of Pokémon Origins. It is seen outside of the window of the house shortly after Red realized that he hasn't capture Mew yet.

Spoilers ends here.

As of now, Mew hasn't ever appear in the main TV anime.

The katakana 'ミュウ' is also the partial part of the character name and word. (This including those outside of the Pokémon franchise) Searching using just 'ミュウ' will brings unrelated search results, such as Mewtwo-related illustrations.

Unless you are search illustrations that only has Mew and not Mewtwo, you can remove the word '-ミュウツー' from the search box.
