Emilia (エミリオ, Emirio) is a warrior from the New Bronquian Empire. She is Blazing Emperor Gulcasa's half sister, and is one of the Five Dragon Generals, famed as the Scarlet Princess.
Emilia wears her red hair in twin pigtails and has nearly-green yellow eyes. She's the shortest member of the cast, smaller even than Nietzsche, who's two full years her junior. Her costume consists of a black and lavender bolero coat trimmed in pink fur and white lace worn over an ocher dress, plus a bonnet that matches the bolero coat.
If she lived in the real world, Emilia ought to still be in middle school, but despite her youth she has incredible strength and indomitable courage, and prides herself on her position as a general and leader of the Scarlet Riders. She flies across the battlefield for the sake of her brother, her friends, and her country.
But she still betrays her immaturity by losing her temper whenever anyone treats her like a child.
Her equipped items across the game include cutesy accessories, gothic lolita fashion, snacks, and even a teddy bear. This draws attention to her childishness, but also to how much her teammates love her.
As you might expect from looking at her costume, she hates the cold. Ice is a Griffon Rider's natural weakness, after all...
Emilia adores her brother Gulcasa, to the point of calling him "Onii-sama". In fact, she comes flying to his rescue when he pushes himself to the point of collapse out of recklessness.
A number of players make brother/sister complex jokes about her and Gulcasa's relationship, but Sting has clarified that Gulcasa has his reasons for doting on Emilia and that there's not actually anything incestuous going on here.
Emilia first appears during Chapter 2 as part of the last leg of her brother's plan to confiscate the Ankhs from Roswell and Rosary. It is Emilia's job to bring the stolen Ankhs back home to Bronquia.
Comparing the two different versions of the event where Emilia appears, the player can observe that she gets along surprisingly well with Leon but doesn't like Russell at all.
The first time she serves as a major enemy is in Chapter 3, where she arrives to delay the Royal Army so that Leon and Eudy have enough time to prepare for battle. The second he sees her Milanor calls her a kid, so predictably Emilia flies into a rage at him.
Emilia regularly crosses blades with the Royal Army after this. Most of the time she attacks in tandem with other Imperial commanders, but she also appears operating solo a number of times, and can be observed handling a broad range of tasks throughout the game.
Emilia in "Blaze Union"
Emilia appears at the beginning of the game using the fake name "Eimi", but it's rare to find players who don't recognize her right away, and about halfway through the story she gives the game away herself by saying her brother's name is Gulcasa.
This time her costume is a powder blue babydoll dress that's a little small for her and black thigh-highs. She uses a black and pink ribbon both to tie up her pigtails and as a headband, and has gaudy gold ornaments on her hair. Compared to the gothic lolita outfit she had in Yggdra Union, in this game she has more of a sweet lolita vibe. While her brother's red hair is rendered in magentas, Emilia's is practically pink.
She joins the party in the B route.
Emilia inherited Brongaa's power from her father just like Gulcasa, and her blood was sealed by the same person as well. But unlike Gulcasa, Emilia's demon powers aren't particularly strong, and as she was old enough to be self-aware when her blood was sealed, her seal is much weaker and she still knows her own true name.
Emilia is more knowledgeable about Brongaa's power than her brother, and so both in the A route and three years later in Yggdra Union, she uses her knowledge to support and care for Gulcasa, who tends to endanger himself by overusing his powers.
Having lost her mother before the start of the game, Emilia decides to try to find Gulcasa, her only remaining blood relative. In the middle of her travels she stops to rest at the home of a traveling performer, and has the bad luck to be discovered by small-time baddie Norn. Emilia is rescued by Garlot and Siskier when Norn tries to kidnap her.
Later, she visits Nessiah in the Kred Forest in hopes of getting a hint as to her brother's whereabouts. Believing Nessiah's prophecy that she'll find Gulcasa sooner if she goes with Gram Blaze, she joins them halfway through the game. As she's normally an NPC, Emilia generally stays behind at the barracks.
According to Siskier, Emilia gets along well with Luciana, and helps Luciana prank people who've earned her ire.
Emilia's innocence and childishness are played up in this game, as one can see from the scene where Siskier introduces Garlot as "our captain" and Emilia takes to calling him "Mister Captain". However, Emilia also relates that she regularly witnesses theft, violence, and murder; the fact that she's traveled a country as dangerous as Bronquia is in this era all by herself at age eleven makes it easy to guess how she became so unusually tough for her age.
While Emilia's home life and how her parents became involved is never explored, the facts players do know paint a grim picture: At the beginning of the story, Emilia and Gulcasa have never met before; all Emilia knows is her brother's name, and Gulcasa has no idea he even has a little sister. And though we don't know what their father's relationship with Emilia was like, Gulcasa is clear that their father abused him very badly.
To make things worse, despite their obvious resemblance, Gulcasa and Emilia are unable to connect the dots that they're related because the seals on their blood cause brain damage. When their seals are broken in the canon route this restores their ability to experience kin recognition, and both characters are confused that they weren't able to sense their blood connection before.
Trivia
- In the Yggdra Unison audio dramas, it's revealed that Emilia is one of only two people who never gets Luciana and Aegina mixed up no matter what the circumstances. (The only other person capable of this is Gulcasa.)
- Sting's old mail magazine Sting Premium Dayori reveals that all animals tend to like Emilia.
- In the original Japanese language version of the games, Emilia's name is actually Emilio. Atlus USA changed her name to Emilia for the US localization because they felt her original name was too masculine.

I still wanna fight more!
This is Emilia's unfortunate fate in the bad ending of the B route. She's the secret extra boss of this route, and is the strongest enemy in Blaze Union.
For this event her class is changed to "Kiddy Brongaa" and her battle theme is swapped out for her brother's. In this state she wears her hair loose and is engulfed in an aura of red fire. Kousaki's character illustrations portray her with her wide sleeves belted closed to keep them from getting in her way, and she also wears a griffon saddle similar to the one Kylier has in Yggdra Union. While her skin color turns warm brown like Gulcasa's in his awakened form, her eyes stay the same as usual.
Unable to save Luciana from being killed right in front of her, Emilia comes to think of herself as useless. Tormented by acute stress and trauma, Emilia breaks the seal on her blood in the middle of the route by reclaiming her true name, and charges into battle to save her friends.
After this point, Emilia begins to feel pleasure in battle and acts eager to fight (to prove herself as useful to the team), but despite occasional flashes of worrisome behavior she's able to retain her reason.
However, if she's deployed in every single battle--in other words, if her teammates rely on her brute strength too much, Emilia becomes terrified that if the war ends she'll go back to the useless child she was before. Since she was already at her limit mentally, this destroys Emilia. Driven by her demon instincts in her state of instability, Emilia attacks Yggdra so that she'll be able to keep fighting, swinging her deadly weapon innocently with a terrible smile on her face.
By killing Yggdra right in front of Aegina, who had only just reconciled with her sister, Emilia reenacts her own trauma of seeing Luciana murdered at the beginning of the route. To Aegina, this begins the nightmare all over again.
And because he's forced to kill Emilia with his own hands, these events destroy Garlot completely. During the route's epilogue, Garlot has fallen into a depressive state and leaves his friends behind to follow Medoute on her journey. Like Emilia, Garlot spends the whole game believing himself to be worthless if he can't be strong, and this incident does cause him to question his obsession with power, but is it really worth the cost?
The way Emilia buries an entire text box chanting "More, more, more!" during this event got a lot of attention from players.
